Here we are in the 4th week and I am on a fast track to hit my -5 lbs goal, plus feeling like I can take on the world - or at least my 5-year-old every morning… Trying out this diet has been more than just a quick lifestyle change for me. After reading the book and feeling like I could really get behind the science, I went all in and built the principles outlined in the book into my daily routine. It was easier than I expected, and now it really feels like I’ve established some practical and sustainable habits that I can continue to carry on forever. The way that it is outlined makes for a balanced and non-restrictive guideline that is easily implemented and can work when eating out, or at home.
I can see myself sustaining this diet mainly due to the way that it is built. It allows for such a wide variety of foods that are already part of my life, and readily available at any place I would eat. I feel like I’ve learned some really helpful methods to build a day’s eating plan and stick to a schedule that will keep my energy up over the long term.
When compared to other diets, this plan does not even feel like a diet to me. Joel said it best in the book:
“Fact is, most diets are extremely narrow with regard to food choices and variety, and many even limit entire macronutrients altogether over the course of the entire program (think low-carb and low-fat diets). Three months with no carbs? No thanks. Such practices not only are entirely unnecessary, but make for a miserable, unsustainable experience.”
I definitely agree and I think that is one reason I never stick with other diets for a long period of time. Thinking back to before I read this, I never thought that eating carbs and eating more at night would be a feasible option for a weight loss or energy boosting plan. Just because we’ve been taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed, doesn’t mean that the science was there to prove it to be correct. I love that the science behind Joel’s diet proves that eating late, eating carbs, and eating large amounts before bed can lead to a long term, healthier and more sustainable way of eating to live.
Thank you for following my journey trying out the Always Eat After 7pm diet!
